South Fork is fortunate to be located at the junction of two rivers, the South Fork River which flows down 3,000 vertical feet from the Continental Divide at Wolf Creek Pass and the Rio Grande River which has its headwaters nearby in the San Juan Mountains above Creede, CO. The Rio Grande is the second largest river in the US and flows 1,865 miles to the Gulf of Mexico, near Brownsville, TX.
Here in the high country the rivers are clean, cold, wild, and excellent trout habitat. Large, mature trees and lush shrubbery line the rivers’ banks. Fishing, rafting and tubing are very popular, and a kayak water park is in the early stages of development in South Fork. The Rio Grande Golf Course meanders along the river and crosses it in several places. Two of the local residential developments have fishing lodges on The Rio Grande which may be used by their members.
Vacant land on the South Fork River begins at $119,000 and on the Rio Grande River at $200,000. Home prices generally start in the mid $400’s, although currently there is a delightful cottage on the Rio Grande offered at $299,000. (See featured listings for more details on this property.)
I keep a current summary of all available riverfront properties from the MLS and my local sources. If you would like a copy of the summary, please contact me at 719-849-8149, or use the form below to send an email.
